An image of a giant rock painted on a textured canvas. The predominant colour of the canvas is an earthy, tea-stain beige, painted over with white to form a murky sky above, a darker shade of brown distinguishing blades of dry grass or hay in background of the scene, and deep black distinguishing the large rock. A figure in black is sat on the ground at the foot of the rock, dwarfed against it, holding their head in their hands. There is a second figure, a thick black line stood straight upwards on the summit of the rock. It may be another person, or possibly a cactus or obelisk. It is hard to tell, as the top of the silhouette is past the edge of the frame.



A scene of stonehenge painted onto an ochre canvas. The stones are painted in wide, strong strokes, reaching to the very top of the frame, leaving deep sea green and navy shadows. In the very centre of the frame, miniscule compared to the scale of the henge stones, a blue tinged figure with long dark hair, dressed in a large blue dress, stands facing the viewer directly. They are painted in much softer strokes than their surroundings.



A portrait of a woman in a ponytail, corset and tight-fitting leggings, against a background of panels of earth tones in various shades of light and shadow, possibly a mountain face. The womans arms are outstretched to the very edges of the frame, contorted to brace and push against the edges of the background. One leg shoots straight down, on tiptoes to lift herself from the bottom of the canvas, and the other is lifted high, knee bent to allow her foot to be above waist level, pushing herself up.



A blindfolded, broad shouldered figure sits, back to us, facing a large stone, much taller than it is wide, with similar proportions to the person if they were standing. The person is sat on a box in a field. The colour pallets is bright, the sky dappled in warm blues, the ground light but dull greens and yellows, the person. painted in the same. The rock is grey with yellow highlights.





Bio

Rachael Kidd was born in Warwickshire in 1991. She studied Fine Art at Newcastle University then lived and worked for four years on the remote Scottish peninsula of Ardnamurchan. Now based in Sheffield, she divides her time between her studio, where she makes her art; running and climbing in the Peak District; working as a self-employed gardener.
